A Renewable Energy-Powered Future for Maluku: Panel discussion at Pattimura University

NZMATES and Pattimura University held a panel discussion on February 27th on the topic of ‘A Renewable Energy-Powered Future for Maluku’.

The panellists were Pak Harris (Director of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of MEMR), Pak Eman Prijono Wasito Adi (EVP Development Regional Maluku, Maluku Utara and Nusa Tenggara of PLN), Pak Fauzan Chatib (Head of Dinas ESDM) and Dr. Jonathan Austin (NZ Ambassador for Indonesia). The discussion was  moderated by the Dean of Pattimura University’s Engineering Faculty, Pak Wolter R. Hetharie. 

The panellists discussed the challenges and opportunities presented by electrification and renewable energy in remote island areas like Maluku, and the importance of collaboration to ensure that Maluku can realise its future as a leader in renewable energy.

Opening remarks at the event were given by the Rector of Pattimura University, Prof. Dr. Marthinus Johanes Saptenno, and Dr. Ir. Leonard VH. Tampubolon, Deputy Minister for Development Funding, Bappenas.

Before the panel discussion, Ambassador Austin also visited the site of Pattimura University’s future integrated solar PV training lab, which is being built with NZMATES support. The training lab aims to build knowledge and capacity of students and others in Maluku through practical training on solar PV technology.
